Guwahati: Pallab Lochan Das has been appointed as the new Chairman of Assam State Transport Corporation Limited, following the resignation of Mission Ranjan Das, who became an MP of Karimganj.
“ I am very happy with the new responsibility that Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma. I will take charges from 1st October”.
The outgoing chairman, Mission Ranjan Das, spoke to Business North East, “ I resigned on August 20. He will attend a farewell party on September 7.”
Pallab Lochan Das is a Bharatiya Janata Party politician from Assam. He was elected in the Assam Legislative Assembly elections in 2011 and 2016 from the Rangapara constituency. He also served as the Member of Parliament from Tezpur and became a minister in the Sarbananda Sonowal-led government in 2016.
Assam State Transport Corporation was originally a wing of the transport department of the Government of Assam before it became a corporation. It was formed as "Road Transport, Assam" under the Home Department on January 16, 1948. Assam State Transport began as a state government department with two buses running between Guwahati and Nagaon. The state transport department was converted to a corporation under the Road Transport Corporation Act, 1950, on March 31, 1970.
