Muscat: Oman is expected to welcome more than seven lakh Indian tourists in 2024, exceeding the previous record of over six lakh visitors from India in 2023. Officials from Oman’s Ministry of Heritage and Tourism attribute this growth to the country's rising appeal as a prime travel destination in West Asia.

Oman as a Tourist Destination

Known for its breathtaking landscapes, Oman offers a unique blend of lush green mountains, rocky terrains, pristine beaches, and scenic views of the Arabian Sea. The Omani government has prioritized the tourism sector as a key driver of national development, investing significantly in infrastructure to attract global travelers. Notable attractions include the Oman Across the Ages Museum, the longest zipline in Musandam, Naseem Adventure Park in Jabal Akhdar, and the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre in Muscat.

Tourism in Oman is a year-round affair, but the ideal time to visit is between October and March, thanks to the favorable climate. The government is also committed to promoting sustainable and responsible tourism practices.

Oman actively engages with Indian travel partners through flagship initiatives such as annual roadshows in major metro cities. These events provide a platform for Indian travel agents to connect with Omani tourism stakeholders, including airlines, destination management companies (DMCs), and luxury hotels. The country also organizes MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) travel shows and sales missions to strengthen travel trade ties and offer training opportunities for agents.

Oman is home to a significant Indian expatriate community of approximately 6.65 lakh people as of August 2024. The country also holds a pivotal position in India’s West Asia policy, with ties between the two nations evolving into a strategic partnership.

As Oman continues to enhance its tourism offerings and deepen its connections with India, it remains a top destination for Indian travelers seeking culture, adventure, and natural beauty.
