Northeast centre of artisanal entrepreneurship to come up soon in Assam

Guwahati: North Eastern Handicrafts & Handlooms Development Corporation Limited (NEHHDC) is lining up a new centre for artisanal entrepreneurship in Assam.

The 'Northeast Centre Of Artisanal Entrepreneurship' will offer two courses - a three-month certificate course and a six-month diploma course, R K Singh, managing director of the NEHHDC, informed.

The NEHHDC recently conducted an entrepreneurship and skill development program (ESDP) organized under the Ministry of MSME at the NEHHDC craft promotion and experience center at Garchuk where Singh made this announcement.

“We are proud to have played a role in empowering the youth of the Northeast and fostering a spirit of entrepreneurship in the region", Singh said, commenting on the success of the program.

Pinku Choudhury, assistant SPM at Assam Skill Development Mission (ADSM) talked about the idea of collaboration with the NEHHDC to promote the handloom and handicraft sector for skilling and entrepreneurship.

Lokesh Kumar Parganiha, Dy Director & HOO, MSME-DFO was the chief guest at the event. Parganiha emphasized the importance of such programs in driving economic growth and fostering innovations in the region. He also stated that "procurement and market" are the key supports that are being provided.

“MSME sector is a fast-growing sector in the Northeast. It has various schemes to support the market and skilling is one of the parts and the valedictory program has been organized for the ESDP scheme supported by ministry or MSME” said Parganiha

The valedictory session also presented products developed by participants and also highlighted their creativity and dedication. Parganiha also shared the current scenario of MSME in the northeastern region. He mentioned about procurement and marketing support scheme - the biggest support provided to the entrepreneur. 

"GI tag products are provided by using marketing assistance and by using other components like attending trade fairs and becoming part of the vendor development programme in several centres and government departments", Parganiha stated.

Further, drawing attention to this entrepreneurship and skill development program, NEHHDC reaffirmed its commitment to continue its efforts towards fostering entrepreneurship, creating employment opportunities, and driving socio-economic development in northeastern India.

Sriparna B. Baruah Advisor (L&E) talked about how NEHHDC helps individual and group entrepreneurs. She also talked about having GI tags and traceability on Assamese jewelry.
