A 29-year-old NIT graduate is making waves in the entrepreneurship sector with his startup - Torquoise Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Kaustav Basak won the prestigious Udgam Expo 2025, and within hours after receiving the trophy, he connected with several investors and incubators, including STPI Assam, Titan Capital, and Blue Green Ventures on January 17.
Some of them even showed interest in his innovative AI-driven venture. “We have been working on AI even before the recent traction with tools like ChatGPT. Our platform creates automated agents that perform complex tasks for users,” Kaustav told Business North East (BNE) when asked about his venture.
Torquoise Technologies Pvt. Ltd. has aggregated data from Northeast India and Jaipur and plans to expand internationally in the tourism sector. AI-driven solutions can help predict seasonal demand and generate actionable plans for hotel and resort owners.
“Our platform uses frameworks like BCG and McKinsey to evaluate business performance. For example, AI can tell owners when to increase prices based on predicted tourist inflows and help create social media outreach or ad campaigns. The goal is to provide seamless, automated services to improve efficiency,” explained Basak.
Currently in its early adoption phase, the startup is expected to generate revenue from March 2025. Moving ahead, Basak envisions expanding the company's capabilities to create digital twins of hotels and extending its services to a business-to-consumer (B2C) model. A sustainability component has also been integrated into the platform to align with modern environmental goals.
The founder also emphasised his dedication to creating job opportunities in Assam. “I’m planning to generate more employment in Assam and bring the state to a global platform,” he said, adding that he is currently seeking seed funding and incubation to scale operations. The startup’s dream reproduces not just a technical novelty but also a promise to drive regional development and put Assam on the global business map.
Many young entrepreneurs are also following in the footsteps of Like Kaustabh and using Artificial Intelligence to leverage their businesses. AI is being used to offer improved client participation, mechanise repetitive tasks, and make data-driven choices. Tools like Chabot’s and recommendation engines are now normal in e-commerce, helping startups create custom-made shopping participations.
AI-powered automation is enabling startups to save time and resources by integrating virtual assistants, automated scheduling, and data entry systems. Data-driven decision-making is being attained through platforms that extract valuable insights from large datasets, allowing startups to predict trends and identify growth chances.

AI is also helping new businesses refine their digital marketing strategies, analyse consumer behaviour, optimise ad targeting, and even make social media posts. AI-driven startups are attracting investors and transforming various sectors. Convenience to AI tools is made easier for young entrepreneurs through platforms like Canva, Notion, and ChatGPT.
