Guwahati: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has joined hands with IRCON International Limited to enhance the maintenance of electrification infrastructure, including Overhead Equipment (OHE) and Power Supply Installations (PSI). The collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on December 26.
According to reports, Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of NFR, and H.M. Gupta, Chief Managing Director of IRCON, signed the agreement, signaling a significant boost to electrification efforts in the Lumding and Tinsukia divisions.
Reportedly, NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma said that IRCON's stellar track record since 1976 in executing complex infrastructure projects in India and abroad ensures top-notch maintenance of OHE and PSI systems, further accelerating electrification in these divisions.
Moreover, sources revealed that electrification in the Lumding and Tinsukia divisions is progressing steadily, with most sections already operational. The remaining 425 route kilometers are likely to become operational by June 2025.

With the expansion of electrified routes, the demand for skilled personnel to handle maintenance and technical issues has grown. The two-year partnership between NFR and IRCON aims to address this need, ensuring seamless operations and enhancing the efficiency of electric traction systems, which will improve regional train services.
Further, the MoU allows NFR to leverage IRCON’s advanced technologies and expertise, enhancing the capabilities of both organizations. “This partnership marks a new chapter in managing electrification infrastructure, blending IRCON’s expertise with NFR’s operational objectives,” Kapinjal Kishore Sharma added. As expected, this collaboration will significantly contribute to the swift and sustainable electrification of railway operations in Northeast India.
