Vadodara : Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pedro Sanchez, the Prime Minister of Spain, officially opened the Tata Advanced System Limited (TASL)-Airbus facility for producing C-295 military aircraft in India. The Tata-Airbus plant is the initial private sector military aircraft final assembly line in India. During the event, Modi stated that the establishment will enhance the bond between India and Spain and further promote our 'Make in India, Make for the World' initiative. He mentioned that the planes produced at this plant will also be sent overseas in the future.

Modi also conveyed optimism that the manufacturing facility's ecosystem will support India in producing civil aircraft in the future. Sanchez announced that the initial aircraft will be prepared for departure from this location by 2026. India signed a contract worth almost Rs 21,000 crore with Airbus Defence and Space in September 2021 to purchase 56 C-295 transport aircraft. This deal aims to replace the old Avro-748 planes of the Indian Air Force and marks the first time a private company will manufacture military aircraft in India. According to the agreement, Airbus will provide the initial 16 aircraft already assembled in Seville, Spain, within a four-year timeframe.

The next 40 airplanes will be produced and put together by Tata Advanced Systems (TASL) in India under an industrial collaboration between the two firms. This site will cover all stages of creating an entire ecosystem for aircraft, including manufacturing, assembly, testing, qualification, delivery, and maintenance throughout its entire life cycle. In addition to the Tata Group, other prominent defense public sector units like Bharat Electronics and Bharat Dynamics, along with private micro, small, and medium enterprises, will also participate in this program, as stated in a previous announcement. In October 2022, Modi inaugurated the Vadodara final assembly line by laying the foundation stone. Previously, the two leaders conducted a roadshow along a 2.5-km route from the airport to the Tata Advanced Systems Limited facility in the morning
