Mizoram's economic state to rise by 15.62% amidst pandemic

Aizawl: Despite the Covid-19 pandemic that brought about untold economic hardship, Mizoram's economy is expected to witness a growth of 15.62%, according to the Economic Survey of Mizoram (2021-2022) tabled in the state assembly by chief minister Zoramthanga on Monday the survey said.

"The total GDP of the state at current prices is estimated at Rs 29,076.42 crore in 2020-21 as against Rs 25,148.57 crore in 2019-20, thereby registering an increase of 15.62%," the survey said.

The remarkable contribution of the tertiary or service sector constituting a share of about 48.06% of the total gross state value added (GSVA) clearly indicated that this sector drives the economy of Mizoram, the survey said.

The industry sector contributed 26%, while the agriculture and allied sector contributed 25.93% to the total GSVA.
