New Delhi: The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has released the third advance estimates of major agricultural crops for 2023-24, which includes the kharif, rabi, and summer seasons.
The estimates are based on information from State Agricultural Statistics Authorities (SASAs), remote sensing, weekly crop weather watch group, and other agencies, officials said. Climate conditions, previous trends, price movements, and mandi arrivals have also been factored in.
The total foodgrain production is estimated at 3288.52 LMT, slightly lower than 2022-23 but higher by 211.00 LMT from the average foodgrain production of the last five years (2018-19 to 2022-23) of 3077.52 LMT. Total rice production is estimated at 1367.00 LMT, an increase of 9.45 LMT from the previous year's production of 1357.55 LMT.
Wheat production is estimated at 1129.25 LMT, a 23.71 LMT increase from the previous year's wheat production.
Millet production is estimated at 174.08 LMT, a marginal increase of 0.87 LMT from 2022-23 production. Nutri/coarse cereals production is estimated at 547.34 LMT, a 46.24 LMT increase from the average production. Tur production is estimated at 33.85 LMT, a marginal increase of 0.73 LMT from last year's production of 33.12 LMT. Lentil production is 17.54 LMT, a 1.95 LMT increase from the previous year's 15.59 LMT.
Soybean production is 130.54 LMT, and Rapeseed and Mustard production is 131.61 LMT, a 5.18 LMT increase from last year's production. Cotton production is estimated at 325.22 Lakh Bales, and Sugarcane production is estimated at 4425.22 LMT.
