Guwahati: Ashok Singhal, Assam's Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, on Wednesday conducted a review of urban water supply projects in Assam under the AMRUT 1.0 and AMRUT 2.0 schemes. The meeting, held at Janata Bhwan, involved key officials and contractors involved in these initiatives. Singhal directed contractors to schedule pipe-laying activities during non-monsoon seasons, focusing on minimizing disruptions to public life.
He also mandated that road restoration works following pipe laying must be completed within a 7-10 day timeframe. Singhal also instructed the Managing Director of AMRUT to develop a detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for contractors to streamline project execution and ensure quality standards.
Currently, water supply projects are underway in three cities, Nagaon, Dibrugarh, and Silchar, with project costs amounting to Rs. 238.33 crore, Rs. 193.93 crore, and Rs. 177.47 crore, respectively.
Under AMRUT 2.0, 24 towns have been selected for water supply schemes, with work orders issued in 13 towns. Additionally, 11 other water supply schemes are in the initial stages of implementation. Singhal urged engineers and project stakeholders to embrace new technologies for the effective and efficient implementation of these ambitious urban development initiatives.
