MeitY Releases Draft Rules Of DPDP Act For Public Consultation

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has released the Draft Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025 for public conversation. The rules aim to reinforce the legal framework for protecting digital personal data by providing needed details and an actionable outline. 

Stakeholders are invited to share their feedback on the draft rules, which are obtainable on the Ministry's website. The rules outline various application aspects, such as notice by the Data Fiduciary to persons, registration and duties of Consent Managers, processing of personal data for issuance of subsidies, applicability of rational security protections, intimation of personal data breaches, details about availing of rights by individuals, processing of personal data of children or persons with disabilities, setting up the Data Protection Board, selection and service conditions of Chairperson and other associates of the Board, functioning of the Board as a digital office, and procedure to plea to the Appellate Tribunal.

Feedback can be submitted via the MyGov portal by February 18. The DPDP Act, which acknowledged the agreement of the President of India, establishes a framework for processing digital personal data, balancing the individual's right to protect personal data with the need to process it for lawful purposes.
