Tura: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday visited Tura Civil Hospital to review the ongoing renovation of its infrastructure and facilities and discussed the progress of the renovations with hospital management. Sangma also met with patients who had undergone surgery at the newly installed catheterization lab.

The first surgery at the Catheterization lab in Tura Civil Hospital was performed on Wednesday by Dr Jacob Abraham Ruram. The patient, a 76-year-old woman from Sellsella, received a heart pacemaker.

According to a state government release, doctors informed Sangma about the need to establish a new critical care unit for heart patients at the hospital and the requirement for additional facilities and manpower. Sangma "praised the management and doctors involved in the critical heart surgeries and emphasized the government's efforts to improve health infrastructure in the state", according to the release.

Commending a team of doctors who successfully performed surgeries and saved the lives of two high-risk patients, Sangma assured that efforts to enhance health services across the state would continue and the government would further strengthen health infrastructure statewide.

Tura Civil Hospital is a 200-bedded General District hospital situated at Dermil in Tura, West Garo Hills. The hospital building was inaugurated in 1988 and caters to the needs of all five districts of Garo Hills, as well as the neighboring districts of Assam.
