Mumbai: In an initiative to endorse self-reliance and entrepreneurship, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Union Ministry paid margin money subsidy worth Rs. 300 crore to 8,794 beneficiaries across the country under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP).

The expenditure event was held on Tuesday through virtual mode from KVIC’s Central Office at Irla Road, Vile Parle (West), Mumbai, where KVIC Chairman  Manoj Kumar transferred the subsidy digitally. The financial assistance was provided against loan sanctions of approximately Rs.884 crore. KVIC Chief Executive Officer Roop Rashi and senior officials of the Commission were present on the occasion.

KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar, addressing the virtual gathering, remarked that under the lively leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the PMEGP scheme has emerged as a powerful platform for self-employment in the country. He stated that Khadi and Village Industries are not merely products but have become personifications of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision. “This scheme has not only created employment opportunities for lakhs of youth but has also instilled the spirit of entrepreneurship among them,” he said.

The subsidy distribution spanned across all six zones of India, reflecting the scheme’s national outreach. In the South Zone—comprising Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry—a total of 2,445 projects received Rs. 80.26 crore in margin money subsidy. The Central Zone, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Uttarakhand, saw disbursement of Rs.91.13 crore for 2,366 projects. Eastern India, covering Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Northeastern states such as Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura, accounted for Rs.62.68 crore for 2,167 projects. The Northern Zone, comprising Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, and Rajasthan, received Rs.41.80 crore for 1,320 projects. Meanwhile, the Western Zone—including Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Goa—helped with Rs 24.12 crore in subsidy for 496 projects.

The large-scale financial support initiative proves the government's strong push towards economic empowerment in both rural and urban areas. The PMEGP has become a basis of self-employment and entrepreneurship across India. Since its beginning, the scheme has supported the establishment of 10,18,185 micro-enterprises, with total loans authorised amounting to Rs.73,348.39 crore.

This latest round of funding payment reinforces KVIC’s continuing promise to nurture small trades, improvement of rural industry, and drive comprehensive economic growth under the government’s mission of building a self-reliant India.
