LIC to invest around Rs 1.30 lakh crore in stock market in FY25

New Delhi: Siddhartha Mohanty, MD and CEO of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), mentioned that the corporation plans to invest approximately Rs 1.30 lakh crore in equities in the ongoing financial year. In the period of April-June FY25, the insurance giant invested approximately Rs 38,000 crore in stocks, compared to Rs 23,300 crore in the corresponding period the previous year.

LIC made a profit of Rs 15,500 crore from its equity market investments in the first quarter. The investment saw a quarter-on-quarter increase in profit of 13.5 per cent. "We are definitely analyzing the markets and price fluctuations...we plan to invest a similar amount as we did in the previous fiscal year.LIC invested approximately Rs 1.32 lakh crore in FY'24," he mentioned. He mentioned that the market value of LIC's stock investments in different companies was approximately Rs 15 lakh crore by the end of June. As of June 30, 2024, LIC holds investments in the shares of 282 companies.

The total amount of funds managed increased to Rs 53,58,781 crore by the end of June from Rs 46,11,067 crore in the same quarter last year, showing a growth of 16.22 percent. The overall investment increased by Rs 7,30,662 crore, rising from Rs 42,44,852 crore in March 2023 to Rs 49,75,514 crore by March 31, 2024. The equity investment portfolio has increased to Rs 12,39,740 crore from Rs 8,39,662 crore in 2022-23, while other investments have increased to Rs 37,35,774 crore from Rs 34,05,190 crore in 2022-23.

In the June quarter of 2024, LIC announced a 10% rise in net profit to Rs 10,461 crore compared to Rs 9,544 crore in the previous year. Income rose to Rs 2,10,910 crore in the most recent June quarter from Rs 1,88,749 crore in the same period last year. During the quarter, the total premium income rose by 16 per cent to reach Rs 1,13,770 crore from Rs 98,363 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
