Agartala: A noteworthy initiative was launched at the Agartala Press Club, marking the commencement of a year-long training program for women entrepreneurs in Tripura.
This initiative, named the ‘Academy of Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), is backed by the US government and is designed to support women entrepreneurs in the state by fostering the growth of their businesses and facilitating access to global markets.
Suman Mukhopadhyay, one of the Directors of Contact Base, during a press conference held in the afternoon said that AWE is an undertaking by the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs (ECA) at the US State Department, which has been dedicated to advancing women's economic empowerment since 2019.
“Having impacted over 5,000 women entrepreneurs in more than 50 countries, the program is now entering its fourth phase (AWE 4) in India, focusing specifically on women entrepreneurs in Tripura and Mizoram – two northeastern states recognized for their high potential in entrepreneurship and innovation”, he said.
He further informed that the implementation of the program will be entrusted to Contact Base, a Kolkata-based non-governmental organization specializing in social and cultural development. Contact Base will be responsible for selecting 100 women entrepreneurs from Tripura and Mizoram to undergo a comprehensive training curriculum. The training will be based on the DreamBuilder platform, an online course developed by Arizona State University and the Thunderbird School of Global Management.
Participating women entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to network with mentors, incubators, and successful entrepreneurs from India and around the world. They will also engage in buyer-seller meets, receive online support covering various aspects of business management, prepare business pitches, and become part of a global community of women entrepreneurs.
This inclusive program is available to women entrepreneurs above the age of 18, residing in Tripura, possessing either a viable business idea or an existing business.
