Assam CM explains why 2023 was a ‘landmark year’ for state’s industrial landscape

Guwahati: Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, on January 4 declared that the last year marked a “landmark year” for the state as far as investments were concerned.

“In 2023, Assam saw a record investment proposal of over ₹11,000 crores with the proposed generation of more than 10,000 jobs due to our path-breaking customised incentive policy”, he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

In a statement, the Chief Minister said that under the Industrial and Investment Policy of Assam (Amendment), 2023, customised incentives were offered for mega projects with a minimum investment of Rs 100 crore and minimum employment generation of 200 permanent employees.

As many as 17 investors invested in the same year and the total proposed investment was Rs 11,753.7 crores. At the same time, the proposed capital investment was Rs. 8775.5 crores. The employment generation was estimated to be as high as 10,906 (including both direct and indirect).

The state Assam data stated that a power subsidy amounting to Rs 77.1 crore, electricity data reimbursement of Rs 31.77 crore, and capital subsidy of Rs 282.25 crore was offered during this period.
