Itanagar: Nyukmadung, Dirang, in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, is gearing up for the grand inauguration of the Kameng Culture and Heritage Museum. The museum, a tribute to the region's rich cultural legacy, will be officially opened on October 23, 2024, by Shri Pema Khandu, Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, in the presence of Shri Kamlesh Paswan, Minister of State for Rural Development, and Lt Gen Gambhir Singh, AVSM, YSM, General Officer Commanding, Gajraj Corps.

Dubbed the "Land of Dawn-Lit Mountains," Arunachal Pradesh has a deep connection to Indian civilization, with mentions in ancient texts such as the Kalika Purana and the epic Mahabharat. The Kameng Museum seeks to encapsulate this ancient heritage, blending history with the natural beauty of the region. The museum was conceptualised as part of the Indian Army's OPERATION SADBHAVANA and aligned with the Government of India's Vibrant Village Programme. It stands as a symbol of cultural integration and commitment to nation-building.

The museum showcases the cultural and religious ties of Arunachal Pradesh’s diverse communities, highlighting their historical, archaeological, and ethnographic significance. The National Museum Institute of History of Art, Conservation, and Museology has professionally curated the museum, with local support in the form of ancestral land and 343 traditional artefacts voluntarily donated by the community.

In addition to its exhibits, the Kameng Museum features a state-of-the-art movie hall where visitors can learn about Arunachal Pradesh’s cultural ties to Bharatvarsh, a cafeteria, and a children’s park, making it a well-rounded destination for tourists. This cultural hub is expected to inspire global visitors, offering them a deep understanding and appreciation of the traditions and history of Arunachal Pradesh.

The Kameng Culture and Heritage Museum promises to become a landmark of pride and identity for the people of Arunachal Pradesh, fostering unity and strengthening the region's link to India’s broader cultural fabric.
