Guwahati: Seven crucial projects worth over Rs 30 crore were unveiled on Tuesday in the Bajali district of Assam by Ashok Singhal, the Irrigation Minister of the state.

According to an official release, these include the Kharadhara point no. 1 project of the Patacharkusi Electric Lift Irrigation Scheme and six others. All of these latest projects were inaugurated at the Kharadhara village. Local MLA Ranjeet Kumar Dass, who is also the Panchayat and Rural Development Minister of the state, was also present at the foundation stone laying ceremony.

Through the implementation of these projects, 1,370 hectares of agricultural land will be irrigated with water from the Tihu and Kaldia rivers. The government estimates that the successful implementation of the scheme will provide continuous irrigation to 449 farmers in 11 villages in the area. The development is based on a micro-irrigation scheme under the Prime Minister's agricultural irrigation scheme 'Har Khet Ko Pani', said the official release.

"The Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana is a golden dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi through which every farmer in the country will be able to build a huge storehouse of golden crops", said Singhal. He added that the irrigation department is "working hard to provide water to every field in the state."

Once the scheme is completed, the responsibility of managing it will be entrusted to well-organized water user associations and field management committees of the local farmers, Singhal said.
