Guwahati: The Tejaswini initiative launched by the Department of Industries, Commerce, and Public Entrepreneurship in collaboration with the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation (NEHHDC) shortlisted 50 women entrepreneurs, who showcased their innovative ideas and ventures in the recently held exhibition in Guwahati. The event was a celebration of the region’s untapped potential among women, particularly those from semi-urban and rural areas.
Speaking to Business North East, Sriparna B. Baruah, advisor of NEHHDC said, “This exhibition is about showcasing the unique and innovative ideas that these entrepreneurs have brought forward. It’s not just about selling products today—it’s about telling their stories. We’ve selected 50 of the most promising ideas, and this platform allows them to share their journey and vision with a wider audience.”
The government official further stated that women should start viewing entrepreneurship as a career option. Although there might be a lot of risk involved, the impact they can make on society is immense, and the personal satisfaction is equally rewarding.
Manju Rani Gogoi, Joint Secretary of the Industries, Commerce, and Public Enterprise Department, also gave her opinion on the matter. She highlighted the overwhelming response to the initiative, with over 1,500 ideas submitted from all corners of the state.

“The creativity and determination we have seen today are remarkable. Many women from semi-urban and rural areas have brilliant ideas, but they often lack the resources or platforms to showcase them. This exhibition is a step towards empowering them and helping them succeed in the long run,” Manju Rani Gogoi told BNE.
Tejaswini Initiative represents a significant step in Assam’s efforts to encourage women-led businesses and to build a more inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem.
