Despite shouldering the responsibilities of his family and managing a bicycle repair shop, Hemanta's true passion lies in crafting unique bamboo handloom products.
For Hemanta, bamboo weaving isn't just a skill; it's a lifelong pursuit turned profession. Initially hindered by the remoteness of his village and limited networking, he struggled to find a market for his creations until a serendipitous encounter in 2001 changed his trajectory. Guided by a fellow artisan, Hemanta honed his craft, gradually building a loyal clientele.
"Thats where I found artist inside me" Hemanta said.
In 2010, fueled by a burning ambition, Hemanta transitioned into entrepreneurship, facing financial setbacks along the way. Despite challenges, his determination remained unwavering, culminating in recognition from private companies in 2016, validating his craftsmanship and unlocking broader market opportunities.
Inspiringly, Hemanta's creativity knows no bounds, shaping bamboo into intricate forms inspired by his surroundings and imagination. Despite limited exposure to modern technology, his dreams extend beyond personal success, envisioning a future where local artisans thrive with governmental support, creating opportunities for youth in his community. Hemanta also said, "I never witnessed a Helicopter, I just imagined the helicopter and created by my own, I like to take challenges"
