Handloom training centre inaugurated by NHPC.

The Executive Director of Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, Vipin Gupta inaugurated a handloom training centre in Dollungmukh, a circle of Kamle district in the lower Subansiri of Arunachal Pradesh. This initiative was taken as part of the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation’s Corporate Social Responsibility’s initiative.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the NHPC and the Kemli Multipurpose Co-operative Society (KMPCS) in the circle to provide training in automatic handloom weaving to 160 women.

Stressing the importance of skill development among the rural poor and other economically weaker sections of the society he emphasised particularly on empowerment of rural women so that there can be equal partnership in earning livelihood.

This Centre will provide training in Operation of Automatic Handloom to the trainees in 4 (four) batches of 40 women for a period of three months each.

Among others, KMPCS chairperson Nido Yapop was also present.

The Corporate Social Responsibility has been an integral part of NHPC’s business life. It is conducting business in a socially responsible way by maintaining high level of organisational integrity and ethical behaviour. This is in conformity with expected standards of transparency in reporting and disclosing the performance in all spheres of its activities, demonstration of concern of social welfare, adoption of best management practices and effective operational methods to win the trust and confidence of all stakeholders. CSR activities undertaken by NHPC are in conformity with the activities specified in Schedule VII of the Companies Act, 2013.

The corporation has implemented a number of CSR initiatives for the community living in and around the Projects like in the areas of education, health, sanitation, rural development, skill development, environment sustainability, women empowerment, promotion of sports, arts and culture, etc.

A number of anti-dam stir movements have been operational in both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The corporation has tried to provide alternative livelihood facilities for people of both Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
