Guwahati Premier Football League 2024 At Judge Field: 16 Teams To Compete For Rs 30 Lakhs

Guwahati: The 2nd Protech Guwahati Premier Football League (GPFL) 2024, organized by the Guwahati Sports Association (GSA), commenced at the historic Judge Field in Guwahati with a grand opening ceremony on November 22, 2024. Several dignitaries graced the opening ceremony including, Assam’s Water Resource and DIPR Minister, Pijush Hazarika, Naharkatia MLA and Assam Cricket Association (ACA) President, Taranga Gogoi, Managing Director of Protech Group, Manoj Kumar Jalan, and Sangrang Brahma, Secretary of the Assam Football Association.  

Teams from both corporate and government sectors have joined forces, creating an exciting blend of competitiveness and sportsmanship. The league features 16 teams, divided into two clusters, with prominent names like Red Bee Inc, DBI SC, North East United FC, NF Railway, Assam Police, and Pride East, among others.   

Devajit Saikia, General Secretary of GSA and Joint Secretary of the BCCI, highlighted the significance of this year’s league. “Several young and promising teams are participating, bringing fresh energy to the competition. This league could serve as a platform for selecting players for the upcoming Bordoloi Trophy. The league’s budget this year is around Rs 2 crore,” Devajit Saikia stated.  

On the other hand, Pijush Hazarika commended the league’s contribution to Assam’s sports landscape. “Assam is making remarkable progress in sports. The Guwahati Premier Football League will provide young athletes with opportunities to achieve greater heights in their careers,” he stated.

Protech Group’s Managing Director, Manoj Kumar Jalan also shared his enthusiasm. “Protech is delighted to support the Guwahati Premier Football League for the second time," he said. He also revealed that Protech has announced Rs 30 lakh for the champions as prize money this year.  

The GPFL fosters local and underscores the growing collaboration between corporate sponsors and sports organizations in Assam. With its robust participation and significant prize pool, the league is set to elevate the standard of football in the region while inspiring the next generation of athletes.
