The long-awaited Guwahati to North Guwahati bridge is nearing completion and is slated for inauguration by this year’s Diwali. Spanning an impressive 8.4 kilometers, with a 1.5-kilometer central stretch, the six-lane extradosed bridge is being constructed at a budget of Rs 2,608 crore.
The bridge, which blends girder and cable-stayed designs, not only promises structural strength but also an aesthetically appealing form. It incorporates advanced noise-barrier technology to minimize disturbances for nearby residents, making it a state-of-the-art infrastructure project.
Upon completion, the bridge will dramatically enhance connectivity between Bhootnath and Machkhowa, significantly reducing the travel distance between Guwahati and North Guwahati. This vital link is expected to boost the development of the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River, addressing long-standing communication challenges and transforming transportation in the region.
