Guwahati: In commemoration of the renowned Kamrupa King, Kumar Bhaskar Varma, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the new bridge connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati will be called 'Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu'.
The declaration is a part of the state's effort to acknowledge and celebrate its rich cultural and historical legacy. The 7th-century ruler, Kumar Bhaskar Varma, is admired for his efforts to elevate Assam's cultural and political significance as well as his contributions to Kamrupa's prosperity.
The building of the much-anticipated Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge is proceeding according to schedule, and Himanta Biswa Sarma has earlier stated that it should be completed by July 2025.
All vehicles, save trucks and commercial buses, will be able to cross the bridge without paying tolls once it is finished.

After visiting the South Bank building site, the CM gave reports. He said, "The construction of the Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge is progressing smoothly, and we aim to inaugurate it for the public after July 2025."
When the Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge is finished, it should significantly reduce traffic and improve the connection between these two important areas of the city, thereby strengthening Assam's infrastructure and development initiatives.
