DISPUR: Guwahati Jal Board is set to open the application process for approximately 95,858 new domestic drinking water connections in the South Central Guwahati sector this December. The JICA-assisted Guwahati Water Supply Project aims to improve the city’s water supply system and has the potential to connect up to 110,000 domestic service meters. So far, the Guwahati Jal Board has successfully provided 14,142 House Service Connections, benefiting 28,492 households across 53 District Metering Areas.
Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Ashok Singhal has urged the residents of Guwahati to take full advantage of this opportunity to apply for water connections in the South Central Guwahati area. The application process has been simplified, with residents able to submit their applications conveniently through the Guwahati Jal Board’s mobile app. This digital solution will ensure an efficient and user-friendly experience for all citizens.

To minimize any inconvenience during the installation of water connections, the Guwahati Jal Board has taken steps to streamline operations. One of the key measures includes ensuring that road excavations for water connections are conducted only once, reducing disruptions and maintaining smooth traffic flow. Minister Singhal has appealed to the citizens to cooperate with the department to facilitate the seamless installation of clean tap water connections and road restoration works, ensuring the process is as smooth as possible for everyone involved.

In addition to the new water connections, the Guwahati Jal Board, in collaboration with the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, has introduced a scheme to support Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. Under this initiative, eligible households with valid ration cards can avail themselves of subsidized water connections, with a subsidy of up to Rs 7,000.
