New Delhi: The government has requested proposals for enlisting entities to offer artificial intelligence services on cloud for the India AI mission worth Rs 10,372 crore, which was sanctioned by the cabinet in March. The selected organizations, such as data centers and cloud service providers, must grant access to advanced computing AI resources such as GPUs, accelerators, TPUs, storage, etc. to academia, startups, researchers, government institutions, and others at the most competitive price determined through the bidding procedure.

Through the IndiaAI Mission, an AI ecosystem will be established by providing access to more than 10,000 GPUs to different stakeholders. IndiaAI, an IBD under Digital India Corporation, MeitY, has issued a RFE (request for empanelment) with the aim of empaneling service providers to achieve this goal, as stated by MeitY's Additional Secretary Abhishek Singh in a social media post.

The swift growth of artificial intelligence worldwide has resulted in a rise in the need for servers powered by GPUs, as they have the ability to handle data faster than servers powered by CPUs. The cost of using GPU-based cloud services in India is believed to be twice as expensive as countries with a high number of GPUs. As per the bid document from Meity, approved agencies will provide crucial high-performance computing, network, and storage services needed for IndiaAI Mission projects, including creating LLMs and AI apps like ChatGPT.
