GMCH To Get Advanced Robotic Machine Enabling Low Cost Surgeries Soon

Guwahati: The Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) highlighted its key achievements in 2024 during a press conference at the Principal's conference hall on January 2.  

During the interaction, Principal Achyut Baishy revealed that GMCH treated over 11.50 lakh patients, of which 10.12 lakh were OPD patients, over 1.15 lakh were IPD patients, and over 1.43 lakh emergency cases. Over 48,900 major and minor surgeries were performed, and over 13 thousand babies were born at GMCH in 2024.

He further said that 25 babies were successfully born through the IVF facility at GMCH, which costs only Rs. 70,000. Other hospitals charge lakhs for this service. Moreover, a state-of-the-art robotic surgery machine is set to arrive at the medical college & hospital by January 7. This will enable advanced surgeries at a very low cost. 

Additionally, the super speciality department of GMCH, operating under Mahendra Mohan Choudhury (MMC), will soon move to the new building, which includes 820 patient beds.

"Under the central health scheme, Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), also known as Ayushman Bharat, GMCH aims to cover 35,000 more people, providing free or low-cost treatments," he told reporters during the press conference.  

The announcements reflect GMCH's continued commitment to providing affordable and advanced healthcare services to the people of Assam.
