Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation and National Urban Livelihood Mission is organised a five-day Rongali Mela on the banks of Dighali Pukhuri from April 9.
City Project Manager Deepali Kakoti said the fair consists of members from self-help groups associated with Guwahati Municipal Corporation and members of the area-level federation.
As many as 33 stalls are taking part in the mela.
The stall owners are mostly happy with such an arrangement but some are complaining of less sales due to high prices.
Kakoti explained that these women participating in the fair are not business women. But with the association with self-help groups, they learned to become entrepreneurs. She further informed that products are mostly sold but they cannot quantify the footfall. Yet, they observed that the number of visitors increased during holidays and evenings.
They expect more such events to occur in the future.
The article sold in the fair ranges from traditional mekhala chadar, gamosa, hand woven ornaments, pitha, ladoo, painting, hand crafted material, men’s wear, clothes for children, etc,
The customers were impressed with the display but some has complained about high prices. The stall owners informed that it is because of the increased prices of various raw materials particularly thread.
The fair will end on April 13.
