Guwahati: Farmers from Bokakhat town in Assam's Golaghat district have sent off pumpkins worth Rs 5.24 crore to various states across India.

The Agriculture Minister of Assam, Atul Bora, shared a post on X stating that farmers in Kuruabahi Gaon Panchayat, Madhya Mohura and Dichai Gaon Panchayats have all grown pumpkins this year, leading to a robust produce. "We are confident that the target for pumpkin production set by the government, in collaboration with the farmers of the region, will be achieved very soon", he added.

He also mentioned that the schemes and policies taken by the state government have transformed Assam's agriculture sector. The majority of farmers in the state have become self-reliant by concentrating on commercial agriculture and the educated unemployed have also been able to pave the way for self-employment, according to the minister. He further assured that the Department of Agriculture would provide all possible assistance to further boost production in the coming days.

Pumpkin is playing a key role in bringing about a vegetable revolution in several parts of Assam. Apart from Golaghat, Nalbari district in Lower Assam is also known for producing huge quantities of the highly-sought after produce.
