Shillong: The Deputy Commissioner of Shillong's East Khasi Hills District has commenced the distribution of rice and wholemeal atta for May 2024 through designated fair price shops, officials said.

Catering to both NFSA (AAY and PHH) and non-NFSA beneficiaries, this initiative emphasizes transparent scales and prices to ensure equitable distribution. Under the provisions of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), AAY beneficiaries are guaranteed rice allocations at 35 kg per card, while PHH beneficiaries receive 5 kg per head free of cost. For non-NFSA households, rice is available at a scale of 7.105 kg per household, with prices ranging between Rs. 12.70 to Rs. 13 per kg.

Additionally, wholemeal atta is being distributed across urban areas at a rate of 5 kg per card, and in rural locales, 3 kg per card, priced at Rs 10.50 per kg. In a bid to maintain the integrity of the distribution process, the Deputy Commissioner's office has urged the public to promptly report any irregularities, including instances of "non-supply, under-supply, overcharging, or provision of inferior quality goods."

Concerned individuals have been encouraged to direct their grievances to the Deputy Commissioner (Supply), East Khasi Hills District, Shillong.
