Guwahati: Eurofins Agro Laboratories has launched a mobile residues testing lab in Dibrugarh, Assam, to ensure the quality standards of chemicals used on tea leaves. The lab is the first in the 200-year history of Assam's tea industry, according to a release.
The lab will test tea leaves purchased by Bought Leaf Factories from small tea growers and the tea produced by the bought leaf factories. Sample collecting centers will be established in various locations, including Dibrugarh and Tinsukia.
State Industry & Commerce Minister Bimal Borah inaugurated the lab at the Teamafco tea factory in Alimur, Dibrugarh.
"The lab will empower small and large tea growers by providing accessible, timely, and reliable testing services at their doorstep," an official noted. Minister Bimal Borah appealed to stakeholders to follow prescribed guidelines for the greater interest of the entire tea industry.
