BERLIN: The European Commission has requested that prominent European firms and CEOs outline their U.S. investment strategies, as reported by two sources familiar with the situation, in an effort to strengthen their position in critical trade discussions with Washington.

According to one source, members of the Confederation of European Business, which includes 42 business federations throughout the region, were sent a survey on Monday requesting details about forthcoming U.S. investments and were instructed to reply swiftly. A comparable message requesting investment strategies for the upcoming five years was sent to the 59-member European Roundtable of Industry, according to a second source, emphasising that the appeal originated directly from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
