Assam is rapidly developing as a major investment destination, with the state government securing proposals worth Rs.5.30 lakh crore during the recent Investors’ Summit 2.0.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, speaking at a business round table with top electronics firms, positioned Assam as a high-growth, high-potential hub for electronics manufacturing in India.

To further catalyse industrial development, the state has earmarked Rs. 25,000 crore for Production Linked Incentives (PLIs) and a devoted top-up scheme aimed at increasing electronics production.

Sarma also unveiled a substantial package of investment incentives, including free land, 100 percent GST reimbursement on finished goods, and a 60 percent top-up incentive over and above central government schemes—under the Assam Electronics Policy, State Industrial Policy, and UNNATI Policy.

Assam’s economic performance has remained resilient, with the state consistently recording Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth rates between 13 percent and 15 percent over the past decade (excluding pandemic years), according to Sarma.

“We are not only growing fast, but building the ecosystem to become a national leader in electronics,” he told an audience that included representatives from Jabil, Deki Electronics, CP Plus, NXP, VVDN, BoAt, Bergen Associates, Kaynes Group, SAEL, and Elcina.

The Chief Minister also pointed to infrastructure upgrades fueling investor interest. These include 11 newly established five-star hotels, the completion of a new terminal at Guwahati’s Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, and three upcoming satellite townships.

One of the state's flagship electronics projects—the Jagiroad OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Testing) facility—is nearing completion and is expected to produce up to 48 million semiconductor chips daily by the end of this year.

To safeguard a steady talent pipeline, Assam is collaborating with NIELIT and Assam Skill University while training local youth in Bengaluru, creating a skilled workforce tailored to the needs of the electronics industry.

With capital inflows surging and foundational infrastructure in place, Assam is putting itself as a serious contender in India’s electronics and semiconductor manufacturing roadmap.
