Entrepreneurship development programme launched in IIT Guwahati

Guwahati: The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati Research Park Foundation has launched an "Entrepreneurship Development Program" (EDP) in collaboration with the Department of Industries and Commerce of the state government "to empower local talent and create sustainable economic growth in the region."

At the launch, Professor Devendra Jalihal, director of IIT Guwahati, emphasized the institute's commitment to fostering a vibrant entrepreneurship ecosystem in Assam and the Northeast region. The EDP is designed to provide participants with valuable management insights and practical skills for starting their own businesses.

The program has the capacity to train around 400 participants and will be led by a team of mentors, including IIT Guwahati faculty members and industry experts. The IIT-Guwahati has said that the programme "will significantly impact Assam's entrepreneurial ecosystem and provide participants with credit linkage support." 

It added in a statement, "This collaborative effort between IIT Guwahati and the Assam government is a significant step towards empowering aspiring entrepreneurs in the state. The EDP has the potential to unlock the entrepreneurial potential of Assam and propel the state's economic growth."

IIT Guwahati has also recently signed MoUs with Assam Startup and FICCI to foster innovation, support startups, and enhance industry-academia collaboration in the region. The institute has said it is committed to developing the overall entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Northeast region.

IIT Guwahati, established in 1994, offers various undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in engineering, science, healthcare, management, and humanities disciplines. The institute has consistently ranked among the top engineering institutions in India and has achieved a global rank in the QS World University Rankings 2025.

IIT Guwahati is also working towards critical science research initiatives in genomics, developmental biology, health care and bioinformatics, and flexible electronics, among other areas.
