Guwahati: Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu announced plans to boost teacher training in English and Media and Information Literacy. During his inaugural speech at the 18th International and 54th Annual Conference of English Language Teachers' Association of India (ELTAI), the education minister revealed that around 20,000 teachers will be recruited for the same.
This event was jointly hosted by the Department of English, Royal School of Languages, Royal Global University, and the Department of English, Sonapur College from the 23rd to 26th October, 2024 at the Assam Royal Global University.
Recalling the contributions of Lt. Padma Shri Natrajan, the founder of ELTAI, emphasized the important role of English as the Lingua Franca of the world. He highlighted the role of neuroscience in language learning and called for embracing multilingualism and digitization as the world order of the 21st century.

Ranoj Pegu encouraged members of the English Language Teachers' Association of India (ELTAI) to document their experiences of English Teaching and shape this association into one that encourages research and helps overcome challenges faced in the learning process. He also highlighted the importance of learning the origin and evolution of languages and their words to attain true knowledge of the subject and etymology as a field.
He welcomed suggestions for methodology and curriculum design for the language as a subject in schools and higher educational institutions, promising accommodation of suitable outcomes from further sessions of the conference.
