Guwahati: The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), headquartered in Ahmedabad, is expanding its reach to northeast India through various initiatives aimed at fostering the development of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the region.

According to Dr. Sunil Shukla, the Director General of EDII, the institute's efforts in the region align with the government's focus on accelerating growth and development, considering the inherent strengths of the northeastern region.

EDII established its Guwahati office in 1990 with the objective of implementing relevant entrepreneurship, technology, and innovation-related interventions.

The Entrepreneurial Development Programmes offered by EDII encompass skill-building, training, and counseling, which have successfully facilitated the establishment of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and created sustainable livelihood options in the region.

EDII places great emphasis on introducing new projects and programs in northeastern India. Notably, the Accenture – Skills to Succeed Goals 2020 project aims to identify and stimulate untapped entrepreneurial potential among women and disadvantaged sections of the region.

Furthermore, EDII recognizes the importance of addressing the vulnerabilities faced by rural and urban micro-entrepreneurs, focusing on innovation, incubation, and research. The institute has conducted micro-entrepreneurship development programs across India, including in Assam and Meghalaya.

As a result of these initiatives, the trained beneficiaries of EDII have established 526 enterprises. Thirteen trades were identified for skill development training, aimed at generating sustainable livelihoods. Through market linkages provided by EDII, these entrepreneurs have achieved a 30 to 35 percent increase in profits. The institute has also facilitated loans exceeding 70 lakh for these ventures.

Overall, the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India is actively contributing to the growth of the entrepreneurial ecosystem in northeast India, empowering individuals and communities with the necessary skills, resources, and support to succeed in their entrepreneurial endeavors.
