Guwahati: The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) in collaboration with IDBI Bank is promoting entrepreneurship and self-reliance livelihood projects called RISE (Revitalizing Innovation for Sustainable Enterprises). Successful beneficiaries of Milonpur and Bondapara centers who completed the technology-based development program received a Jacquard machine from the EDII.

The Jacquard, developed in 1804–05 by Joseph-Marie Jacquard of France, can produce fabrics having intricate woven patterns such as tapestry, brocade, and damask. It has also been adapted for production of patterned knitted fabrics.

The event, held at Janata Sangha premise in Bondapara village, saw the presence of general manager Udayan Mukherjee and assistant general manager Bhushan Das. Mukherjee and  Das emphasized how beneficiaries can leverage the resources provided to create sustainable livelihoods and contribute to the growth of the local economy.

"The distribution of Jacquard machines was a significant event, symbolizing a step forward in empowering local artisans and promoting entrepreneurship in the region", the EDII said in a release.

They also encouraged beneficiaries to integrate organic fibers and eco-friendly dyes with the advanced patterning capabilities of the new machines, creating unique, sustainable products that appeal to environmentally conscious consumers.

IDBI officials also committed to the facilitation of any bank loan or schemes available for monetary support throughout the project. Additionally, certificates were awarded to beneficiaries who completed the Technology-Based Entrepreneurship Development Program at their respective centers.

Beneficial participation from Milonpur and Bondapara centers was a significant success, providing essential tools for enhancing their weaving businesses and serving as a platform for networking, learning, and inspiration.

Moving forward, it is expected that beneficiaries will leverage the resources provided to create sustainable livelihoods and contribute to the growth of the local economy.

Dr Bhaskar Jyoti Saud, assistant professor of EDII, told Business North East "As part of the RISE project, which aims to foster entrepreneurship through technology development, beneficiaries who underwent training in Technology Entrepreneurship Development Program were presented with Jacquard Machines. The beneficiaries also received opportunities to thrive as entrepreneurs, empowered by knowledge and innovation. The beneficiaries will continue to fuel the journey towards a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem, supported by the invaluable partnership with IDBI Bank and the vision of entrepreneurship by EDII".
