Guwahati: The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), in collaboration with Accenture, inaugurated a 26-day Micro Skillpreneurship Development Program on Handloom for rural women at Adarshagaon, Chaygaon, Champak Nagar in Kamrup district on September 12.
This initiative, led by EDII's North East Regional Office in Guwahati, aims to empower rural women by providing them with essential skills and technical knowledge to start their own businesses. The program focuses on handloom, offering training on Jacquard machines, design development, business management, financial literacy, and marketing strategies. Participants will also gain access to microloans and receive ongoing support to establish individual and group enterprises.
By equipping these women with crucial skills and resources, the program seeks to create sustainable economic opportunities that benefit not only the individual entrepreneurs but also their families and communities. EDII and Accenture believe that investing in women’s entrepreneurship is essential for sustainable rural development.
Ratan Guha, Program Manager at EDII, emphasized the program’s commitment to providing women with the tools necessary for entrepreneurial success while fostering a supportive community network. Guha told Business North East, “This initiative, supported by Accenture and targeting marginalized groups, is a significant step towards empowering our women and creating more inclusive economic opportunities in our communities."
He added, "Rural women have always played a vital role in the development of our society, yet they continue to face numerous challenges, particularly in accessing education, training, and economic opportunities. The Micro Skillpreneurship Development Program addresses these challenges by upgrading technology and optimizing resources, enabling women to start their own businesses and become financially independent. Furthermore, this program aligns with our commitment to sustainable development and gender equality."
