Tinsukia: The Digboi Refinery will be expanded to increase its capacity from 0.65 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) to 1MMTPA at an estimated cost of around Rs 740 crore, said Rameswar Teli, Union Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas here.
Despite the fact that 27 bighas of land were acquired for the Digboi refinery expansion project and April 15 was originally set for the laying of the foundation by the Prime Minister due to some confusion over land acquisition, the programme was delayed, according to Teli, who also added that this expansion project would help the refinery become more profitable.
The capacity will rise from 3 MMMTPA to 9 MMTPA as a result of this expansion project, Teli said.
