Israel PM Netanyahu calls Prime Minister Modi
The world continues to be shocked and India concerned as the conflict in Gaza escalates on the fifth day.
Israel continued to rain down bombs on Gaza after Saturday’s attacks on Israel by Hamas. Hamas has continued to fire rockets at Israel Over 2000 people including 1200 Israelis have been killed. Over 200 targets in Gaza have been targeted by Israeli forces, say fresh reports.
Israeli forces and Lebanon-based Hezbollah fighters are also exchanginglict fire, reports Al Jazeera.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a telephone call from Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“Prime Minister expressed deep condolences and sympathy for those killed and wounded as a result of the terrorist attacks in Israel and conveyed that people of India stand in solidarity with Israel in this difficult hour,” said a release from the ministry of external affairs. “He reiterated that India strongly and unequivocally condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.”
India has condemned the Hamas’ terrorist attacks on Israel in which hundreds of civilians have been killed.
Modi also highlighted the issue of safety and security of Indian citizens in Israel to which Netanyahu assured of full cooperation and support.
The two leaders have agreed to remain in close touch. India’s relationship with Israel has grown closer over the years.
On the issue of conflict affecting India’s oil supplies, the minister for petroleum and natural gas Hardeep S Puri has said that since the conflict is in the world’s energy hub, India will be watching the situation carefully.
“As we go along, we will navigate our way through this,” said Puri.
As uncertainties around the region grow, Puri made a case for moving towards greener fuels.
A large part of Indian crude oil imports are from Iraq, UAE and Saudi Arabia the countries falling in the region where conflict has now escalated.
