New Delhi : SECL, a subsidiary of Coal India, plans to invest Rs 169 crore in the next five years for large-scale tree planting initiatives in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, according to an official announcement made on Monday. SECL, in collaboration with Rajya Van Vikas Nigam, plans to plant more than 26 lakh saplings in Chhattisgarh and 12 lakh in Madhya Pradesh from 2023-24 to 2027-28.
The coal ministry stated that the program also involves a four-year maintenance period for every year of planting to guarantee the healthy development and survival of young trees. Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative, SECL has planted 1,46,675 saplings in its operational regions in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
