Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held a high-level meeting with an eleven-member delegation from Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City Project at Lok Sewa Bhawan.
The visiting team, including members of the Core Working Group of the project and officials from the Royal Bhutanese Consulate General, is currently on a tour of Assam and Meghalaya to reinforce cross-border ties.
In a warm and cordial interaction, Chief Minister Sarma extended a heartfelt welcome to the Bhutanese delegates and emphasized Assam’s promise to the Gelephu Mindfulness City Project.
He repeated that the Government of Assam, allied with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is devoted to supporting initiatives that foster regional cooperation, sustainability, and shared prosperity.
“The Gelephu Mindfulness City will be a cornerstone for enhanced institutional collaboration and people-to-people ties between Assam and Bhutan,” said the Chief Minister. He also noted the project’s potential to create expressive chances for the youth in both regions through education, skill development, entrepreneurship, and cultural exchanges.
The Chief Minister encouraged the delegation to visit leading institutions in Assam, such as universities and medical facilities, to explore paths of teamwork. He assured them of full cooperation from the Assam government and invited them to use state-run capitals that could serve as models or planned partners for the Gelephu Mindfulness City initiative.
Sarma lovingly remembered the earlier visit of His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck to Assam and communicated his keenness to host the royal family again in the near future. Looking ahead, he planned that the next visit of the Core Working Group include a multi-sectoral meeting involving various stakeholders to augment dialogue and promote a inclusive method to regional growth.
“The bond between Assam and Bhutan is deeply rooted in history and shared aspirations. We look forward to a future defined by mutual growth and collaboration,” Sarma remarked.
The meeting decided with both sides repeating their promise to reinforce two-sided ties and work towards achieving common developmental goals.
Sarma was accompanied by Special Chief Secretary Syedain Abbasi, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister K. K. Dwivedi, Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University Dr. Nani Gopal Mahanta, and other senior officials from relevant departments.
The Bhutanese delegation was led by Dasho Arun Kapur and included illustrious figures such as former Chief Justice of Bhutan Dasho Tshering Wangchuk, Member of the National Council and MP Dasho Tashi Wangyal, among others from the Core Working Group of the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) project.
On behalf of the Royal Bhutanese Consulate General were Consul General Jigme Thinlye Namgyal and Consul Phurpa Tshering.
