New Delhi: According to ministry officials, more than 125 projects will be inaugurated by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh at the Fisheries Summer Meet in Madurai, Tamil Nadu on Friday, giving a significant boost to the fisheries sector.

These projects, sanctioned by the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), amount to a combined investment of over Rs 100 crore. Ministry officials stated that a wide range of activities are part of the initiatives, such as fish retail kiosks, shrimp hatcheries, brood banks, ornamental fish units, biofloc units, fish feed mills, and fish value-added businesses.

PMMSY, a leading initiative of the Center, seeks to promote sustainable growth within the fishing industry. Although the exact financial support details were not revealed, it is anticipated that the program will greatly support local businesses and improve the nation's fishery production.

At the event, Singh will give out grants to 12 winners of the first Fisheries Startup Grand Challenge, which is being coordinated by the ministry. The minister will engage with recipients who have obtained central funding for their initiatives.

The Fisheries Summer Meet facilitates discussions between the Centre and states, highlighting the involvement of stakeholders in the fisheries and aquaculture industries. It also seeks to raise awareness regarding different central government programs. Ministers of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, S P Singh Baghel and George Kurian, will be present at the event alongside Tamil Nadu Fisheries Minister Anitha R Radhakrishnan.
