Center to provide support for natural farming in Assam: Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Guwahati: Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Minister, has initiated state-wise discussions with a high-level delegation, including Assam Agriculture Minister, Atul Bora, to promote natural farming in the state.

Natural Farming can be defined as “chemical-free and livestock based farming” that integrates crops, trees, and livestock, allowing the optimum use of functional biodiversity.

He assured that farmers in Assam would not face any problems at the central level and assured that the cehtre would provide full support at its level for the development of Assam. He also mentioned the central government's policy to promote natural farming and said there is ample opportunity to promote natural farming in Assam.

According to officials, the discussions focused on soil health, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, (PMFBY), increasing storage capacity, and horticulture. Chouhan said, "Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the interest of farmers and the agriculture sector is paramount, and the Central Government will continue to provide full support to Assam in organizing capacity building workshops and training."

The Union Minister also discussed various schemes and programs of the Agriculture Ministry, emphasizing the need for creation of infrastructure such as dry storage, cold storage, and processing units under AIF in convergence with schemes of the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), Pradhan Mantri Krishi  Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY), and Pradhan Mantri Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme (PMFME) of Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MOFPI).
