Cargo traffic at major ports grows 5.92 pc to 70.08 MT in June

Mumbai: According to the data from the Indian Ports Association, cargo volume at 12 major ports in the country increased by 5.92 pc  to 70.08 million tonnes in July compared to 66.17 million tonnes in the same period last year.

According to the IPA, the data indicated that 10 out of the major ports experienced an increase in cargo traffic, while the other two experienced a decrease. The 12 main ports include Deendayal (Kandla), Mumbai, Mormugao, New Mangalore, Cochin, Chennai, Ennore (Kamarajar), Tuticorin (VO Chidambaranar), Visakhapatnam, Paradip, Kolkata (including Haldia), and Jawaharlal Nehru Port.

IPA reported in July that Cochin Port saw the highest cargo growth at 24.77 pc, with Visakhapatnam Port at 10.80 pc and JN Port at 9.07 pc following closely behind. Chennai Port saw an increase of 8.89 pc in traffic from July 2023, while Deendayal Port and V O Chidambaranar Port experienced growth of 7.13% and 6.74 pc in cargo traffic, respectively.

IPA reported that in July this year, Paradip Port saw a cargo handling growth of 3.60 pc, while SMP at Kolkata Port had a growth of 2.26 pc  and Kamarajar Port had a growth of 0.69 pc. It was reported that there was a 0.18 per cent increase in cargo traffic at New Mangalore Port during the month being analyzed. Mumbai Port experienced a decline of 1.23 per cent, while Mormugao Port saw a decrease of 1 per cent, according to the IPA.
