Bongaigaon: The second consignment of Ethanol Blended Motor Spirit (EBMS) was flagged off by Bongaigaon Refinery Executive Director Siddhartha Pratim Baruah from the Refinery in the presence of its officials a couple of days back.
The Indian Oil Chairman had virtually flagged off the first consignment of the blended fuel produced by the Refinery on August 13 last year.
The Bongaigaon Refinery, which is the eighth refinery of the Indian Oil and is celebrating its golden jubilee year, is currently capable to produce 700 metric tonnes of EBMS per day and the ethanol, which is blended at 9 to 11 percent volume with petrol, is being procured from the sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh.
According to the technical experts at the Refinery, the higher oxygen content of the EBMS helps incomplete combustion of fuel, resulting in lower emissions. It is only usable in petrol-operated vehicles, they said.
