Bhupen Hazarika's 13th Death Anniversary: Statue of Legendary Singer Installed in Kokrajhar

A life-sized statue of Assam's legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika has been unveiled in Kokrajhar, Assam. The statue has been inaugurated by BTC Chief Promod Boro to honor the singer and his unparalleled contributions to music, culture, and society on November 5, his 13th death anniversary. 

A special tribute program is being conducted by the All Assam Students Union (AASU) and Byatikram Masdo, both of which have played a significant role in preserving and promoting the legacy of Assamese culture. The Byatikram Masdo tribute ceremony not only honoured Bhupen Hazarika but also paid homage to Kulada Kumar Bhattacharya, a veteran Assamese actor and director. 

Saumen Bharatiya, President of Byatikram Masdo, expressed his grief over the loss of these two giants. He said, "The society has lost two legends. Their contributions to the cultural fabric of Assam are immeasurable. We celebrated the cultural legacy of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika on his birth anniversary, and next year, we will observe a tribute for Kulada Kumar Bhattacharya on his death anniversary."

Speaking on the ocassion, AASU Chief Advisor Samujjal Bhattacharya said, "It is a proud moment for us that a 10.5-foot statue has been inaugurated in Kokrajhar today."  

"Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s contributions to the Bodo community and his role in shaping Assam’s cultural landscape are unparalleled. Today's generation is beginning to understand the true meaning of his songs, which will enrich our cultural heritage," he added.

The statue in Kokrajhar stands as a symbol of the lasting impact of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s music, his connection to the people, and his role in uniting diverse communities through his art. The statue’s creation is part of an ongoing effort to honor his memory and ensure his legacy is passed on to future generations.

Meanwhile, Promod Boro also announced a series of development initiatives aimed at enhancing Bodoland's socio-cultural landscape. Key announcements included the construction of a statue renowned cultural icon Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha and a Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Bhawan in Baksa, with an investment of over Rs 10. Crore. Promod Boro highlighted the government's ongoing efforts to foster unity in diversity.
