Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) signed MoU with Coal India Limited (CIL) and NLC India Limited for setting up Coal Gasification based plants. BHEL rose 2.56 percent to Rs 62.20 after the company clarified it has entered into a non-binding MoU with CIL and NLCIL.
As per media reports, with the signing of the MoU, the company has an aim of setting up a Coal Ammonium Nitrate Project with CIL based on the Gasification of high-ash Indian coal, and a lignite-based gasification pilot plant with NLCIL for power generation.
This is expected to be a breakthrough step towards meeting the National Coal Gasification Mission target of 100 million (MT).
BHEL is a pioneer in the development of indigenous coal gasification technology. It has successfully gasified high-ash Indian coals. This technology was earlier utilised to establish a 6.2 Megawatts electric (Mwe), IGCC (Integrated Coal Gasification Combined Cycle)-based Combined Cycle Plant at BHEL Trichy.
