BHEL bags order for hydropower project in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar: Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), a leading manufacturer of power-generating equipment, has secured a significant order for the electro-mechanical works of India’s largest-capacity hydropower project, the 2,880-MW Dibang multipurpose project in Arunachal Pradesh.

The order is for the 12x240 MW hydropower project located in Roing in the Lower Dibang Valley. This project is being executed by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC).

BHEL’s role in this contract includes the design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of the electro-mechanical package. This package encompasses a wide range of equipment, including turbines, generators, digital governing systems, transformers, switchgear and more.

The critical equipment required for this project will be manufactured at BHEL’s state-of-the-art facilities located in Bhopal, Bengaluru, Jhansi and Rudrapur. On-site execution activities will be handled by BHEL’s power sector – eastern region division in Kolkata.

BHEL and NHPC have a longstanding partnership dating back over four decades, and they have collaborated on various hydropower projects.
