The Employees' State Insurance (ESI) Scheme, established under the Employees' State Insurance Act of 1948, is a comprehensive social insurance program designed to provide social security to "Employees" as defined by the Act. It offers protection against contingencies such as sickness, maternity, disability, and death due to employment-related injuries, and provides medical care to insured persons and their families.
Padma Shri Ajay Kumar Dutta emphasized, "Employees should be aware of their rights and the benefits provided by ESIC. ESIC has been evolving and improving over the years, and awareness programs should be spread everywhere, whether in urban or rural areas." ESIC Central member Pankaj Kumar Pathak stated, "We have witnessed the benefits of ESIC, where employees receive all the benefits without any charges. In Assam, the Beltola and Tinsukia ESIC facilities are developing, with ongoing additions to the number of beds and improvements in hospital infrastructure as part of the development process."
