ATF price cut 6 pc, commercial LPG up Rs 48.5 per cylinder

New Delhi: The cost of jet fuel, known as ATF, saw a 6.3 percent decrease to the lowest point of the year, while the price of commercial LPG used in hospitality establishments was increased by Rs 48.5 for a 19-kg cylinder in the monthly adjustment aligned with global oil price patterns. State-owned fuel retailers have reduced the price of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) by 6.29 percent, which amounts to Rs 5,883 per kilolitre. In the national capital, the new price stands at Rs 87,597.22 per kl. This year, jet fuel is at its lowest price.

The second price cut within a month will provide relief to airlines, as fuel accounts for nearly 40 pc of their operating expenses. On September 1, there was a decrease in prices by Rs 4,495.5 per kl, which is equivalent to 4.58 percent. The ATF price in Mumbai decreased from Rs 87,432.78 to Rs 81,866.13 per kl on Tuesday. Prices vary from one state to another based on the level of local tax rates. Beside that, oil companies raised the cost of industrial LPG by Rs 48.5 to Rs 1,740 for a 19-kg cylinder.

This marks the third consecutive monthly rise. There was an increase of Rs 6.5 per cylinder on August 1 and a further increase of Rs 39 on September 1. Following four monthly price decreases, there are three consecutive rounds of price increases. Rates were reduced by Rs 148 per 19-kg cylinder in four reductions, and have increased by Rs 94 per bottle in three rounds of hikes. In Mumbai, the price of commercial LPG is Rs 1,692.50 for a 19-kg cylinder, while in Kolkata it is Rs 1,850.50 and in Chennai it is Rs 1,903.

The price of LPG for household use continued to stay steady at Rs 803 for a 14.2-kg cylinder. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) adjust prices of ATF and cooking gas monthly, taking into account global fuel prices and exchange rates. Prices of gasoline and diesel continue to stay unchanged. Prices were reduced by Rs 2 per litre in the middle of March. In Delhi, petrol is priced at Rs 94.72 per litre, and diesel costs Rs 87.62.
